I have been looking quite a lot at a collection of drawings from my childhood recently and decided to redesign one of the creatures. It was a great experience as it really put me back in the shoes of my younger self. I am 18 now and the source image is probably from when I was around 9. It got me thinking about how when I was younger I wasn't inhibited by things like the idea that something similar has already been made, fixating on the technical aspects of the image and my overall ego. I was probably more of a concept artist at age 9 than 18 aha, because my mind was 100% focused on my ideas and imagination. I would suggest this exercise to anyone who is interested in a refreshing perspective on their art and a bit of good old fashioned nostalgia.
